CVM Seeks to Boost the Use of AI in Digital Asset Market Supervision
CVM Chairman Says Traditional Market Supervision Is No Longer Enough
The chairman of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), Otto Lobo, said it is necessary to test an approach that uses artificial intelligence to supervise and regulate the capital markets and their emerging forms, such as digital assets.
“There is no longer any way for us to supervise the Brazilian market without making a change,” he said during a panel at Token Summit Brasil 2026.
Lobo recalled the Tokenization Working Group established by the CVM in July to conduct studies, carry out tests, and propose rules for a blockchain-based market infrastructure. According to him, the working group is developing a new market infrastructure that will give the Commission even greater supervisory capabilities.
“We need to move forward with a new market supervision infrastructure, while taking care to understand what is being done outside Brazil. We traveled to the United States to understand what each of the players, such as the NYSE [New York Stock Exchange], Nasdaq, CFTC [Commodity Futures Trading Commission], SEC, Coinbase, and new technology vendors, are doing,” he said.
In Lobo’s view, every country in the world needs to discuss public policies for the use of AI and examine successful experiences. “The first deliverable we consider essential is to test a form of supervision that incorporates artificial intelligence, with a data lake, cloud infrastructure, and all available data from Anbima, B3, and the CVM being processed by a system with AI-based supervision.”
